How Far Ahead Should You Order a Custom Wedding Suit in Orange County?

Three to four months. That is the honest answer. Not because a custom suit takes that long to build — ours takes about six weeks from measurement to final delivery — but because your wedding deserves the calm version of the process, not the rushed one.

Every spring and fall, grooms walk into our Costa Mesa showroom six weeks out from the wedding and ask if it is too late. It usually is not. But the difference between ordering at four months and ordering at six weeks is the difference between enjoying the process and white-knuckling it.

Here is how the timeline actually works, and where the hidden delays live.

The timeline

The real calendar, week by week

Months 4–3 out

The consultation. You sit down with one of our Master Clothiers for about an hour. We talk about the venue, the time of day, the formality, the wedding colors, and what the rest of the party is wearing. Then we measure you head to toe and walk the fabric library — thousands of cloths from Loro Piana, Zegna, Scabal, Holland & Sherry, Dormeuil, and the rest. Most grooms are surprised how much they enjoy this part. Bring photos of what you like. If your fiancée has opinions, bring her too.

Months 3–2 out

Cutting and the first fitting. Your pattern is drafted to your body — yours alone, not a factory block. The garment is cut and assembled, and you come back to try it on. This is where the real craft shows: We pin, mark, and refine.

Months 2–1 out

The final fitting. You try the finished suit. At b.spoke this is usually a confirmation — but if anything needs adjusting, there is time. This is also when most grooms finalize the details: shirt, tie or bow tie, pocket square, cufflinks, shoes.

Two weeks out

Delivery. The suit is pressed, finished, and in your hands with time to spare..

Why it matters

Why four months beats six weeks

The suit itself is not the risk. The risk is everything around it: a fabric that needs to be reordered, a groomsman who keeps rescheduling, a body that changes during a stressful engagement.

A four-month runway absorbs all of that. A three-week runway absorbs none of it.

Ordering early means you get your pick of appointment times instead of whatever is left.

The wedding party

What about the groomsmen?

The whole party, one look — including out-of-town groomsmen

We handle out-of-town groomsmen regularly. The groom comes in first and locks the look; groomsmen get measured on their own visits or send measurements we verify in person. Start the group conversation at the same four-month mark so nobody is scrambling. One note from experience: get the groomsmen’s orders in before the bachelor party, too be safe.

Personal touches

Make it unmistakably yours

A wedding suit should have a secret or two. Custom linings, embroidered dates, a monogram where only you know to look — these are the details that make it yours long after the last dance.

Running late?

Rush orders: yes, with a phone call

Life happens. If you are inside six weeks, call us at (714) 884-3722 as soon as possible. We have rush options as quick as three weeks depending on the fabric and our production schedule. We will tell you straight whether your date is doable — and if it is not, we will tell you that too.

A few practical notes: we usually take full payment when you order. Most clients visit two or three times: consultation, fitting, final pickup.

Your wedding photos last forever. Give the suit the same runway you give the venue.

Good to know

Common questions

How far in advance should a groom order a custom suit?

3–4 months before the wedding. A custom suit takes about 6 weeks to build, and the extra time covers fittings, fabric selection, and any schedule surprises.

Can I get a custom wedding suit in 6 weeks?

Usually yes — 6 weeks is our standard turnaround. Inside 6 weeks, call (714) 884-3722 to discuss rush options as quick as 3 weeks.

When should groomsmen order their suits?

At the same time as the groom — 3–4 months out. b.spoke can handle out-of-town groomsmen; start the group order before the bachelor party.
