The mill that planted a forest
Ermenegildo Zegna was born in Trivero in 1892 and founded his wool mill, ‘Il Lanificio,’ at just eighteen. His vision reached beyond cloth: the world's most beautiful fabrics, prosperity for the community, and harmony between industry and nature. Over the decades he transformed the mountains around the mill into Oasi Zegna — a 100 km² natural territory in the Biellese Alps.
The pursuit continues in the fleece itself. Each year Zegna sources exceptional Australian fleeces and transforms them into Vellus Aureum — ‘the pinnacle of wool’ at thirteen microns. ‘Craftsmanship is not a detail at ZEGNA — it's a founding principle,’ the maison says, ‘from the looms of Il Lanificio to the fine stitching of Vellus Aureum suits.’
