REDA 1865

Biella, Italy · Est. 1865

Biella's Merino wool leader since 1865 — a fully traceable fleece-to-fabric chain, from its own New Zealand sheep farms to the finished cloth.

The Heritage

From one man's mill to a Merino empire

In 1865, Piedmont industrialist Carlo Reda transformed an old mill at Valdilana, in the province of Biella, into a true woollen mill. In 1919 the Botto Poala brothers — descendants of a historic weaving family — acquired the mill, and the family has led it ever since. Today the fourth generation is at the helm: Ercole Botto Poala as CEO and Francesco Botto Poala as COO.

What sets Reda apart is ownership of the entire chain. Since 1993 the company has run its own sheep farms in New Zealand — Otamatapaio, Rugged Ridges and Glenrock, more than 30,000 sheep — guaranteeing the quality and traceability of its raw material. An automatic warehouse brought output to 2,500,000 metres a year, and the group's divisions — Reda 1865, Reda Active, Reda Flexo, Rewoolution — carry Biella's Merino to tailors and clothiers worldwide. Certified B Corp since 2020 and a Società Benefit since 2022.

From Fleece to Cloth

It starts with its own sheep

Most mills buy their wool; Reda raises it. More than 30,000 Merino sheep on three New Zealand stations, farmed to the ZQRX standard, give the mill direct control from fleece to finished cloth — traceable, Made in Italy, and accountable.
