Gladson
New York's luxury fabric house since 1948 — proprietary cloths you won't find anywhere else, from Huddersfield to Biella.
Gladys + son = Gladson
The story starts in the late 1930s, when Benjamin Solomon and his four brothers sold English fabrics to wholesale manufacturers from warehouses on 4th Avenue in Manhattan. The name came from Ben's wife Gladys — plus ‘son.’ Sons Herbert and Mickey joined after textile design degrees, and in 1948 the company officially began as ‘Gladson of England.’
Gladson rode the mohair craze of the fifties and sixties — ‘the black mohair that was everyone's best dress suit,’ worn by Sinatra and the Rat Pack. In 2009 HMS International purchased Huddersfield Fine Worsteds in the UK — Royal Warrant holders — and today Gladson is known for ‘unique and proprietary luxury fabrics, only available from Gladson’: QX2, Fresco, Genesis, Bedlam, Bamboo and Flash.
